The tunnel boring machine, fully known as a shield tunneling machine, is a specialized piece of construction equipment designed for tunnel excavation. Modern tunnel boring machines integrate mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, optical, sensing, and information technologies into a single, highly advanced system, capable of excavating and cutting through soil, as well as efficiently transporting excavated material away from the site.
